Further Information
Landmarks / Shopping in Berlin
It would be hard to imagine Berlin without the world-famous Kurfürstendamm, affectionately referred to as the Ku’damm by the city’s residents. It begins near the lovely Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedächtniskirche and leads onto the lively shopping mile on Tauentzienstraße, at the end of which you will find the legendary KaDeWe. The KaDeWe rightly prides itself on being a luxury department store and is a place that especially foodies should visit. On the other side of the church, the Ku’damm stretches into a charming promenade – made to seem endless by the large number of shops and enticing cafes lining it– that is sure to stir up the blood of any prêt-á-porter fan.
Theater / Culture in Berlin
Many of the Ku’damm’s side streets lead to further interesting tourist attractions of which Uhlandstaße and Bleibtreustraße are good examples. The fashionable boutiques and the exclusive location invite you to take a stroll. A worthwhile insider tip for art lovers is the Käthe Kollwitz Museum in Fasanenstraße. We highly recommend the charming Renaissance Theater – where the guests are enchanted by sophisticated subject matters and an interior Art Déco aesthetic. The Theater des Westens – renowned for its brilliant musicals – is in the immediate vicinity of the hotel.
Tip: The Museum für Fotografie [Museum for Photography] - a must see for fans of photography in general and of Helmut Newton in particular - is located within five minutes’ walking distance of the Berlin Excelsior Hotel.
For those visitors interested in relaxing in a café atmosphere, we suggest doing so with a slice of “Schwarzwälderkirschtorte” [Black Forest Gateau] at either the Café Leysieffer or at the Café Kranzler on the Ku’damm. Additionally, there are many cafés and bars located at nearby Savignyplatz. Both the Paris Bar and the Schwarze Café are a must for night-owls. Whether celebrities, artists, or actors: you will find all of them there enjoying their evening. Of course, there is also a wide variety of restaurants in the vicinity of the hotel that offer international cuisine. We suggest that you turn to our hotel team for additional information.
